Brad* checked the latest report, the bushfires were 30km away from his house in mid-north NSW, he thought his house was far from being under threat, so he went up to the shops. When he was driving home an hour and half later he saw a road-block had been set up. He decided to go home and collect items just in case the fires came near his families property. However, as approached his home he saw flames hit the back shed. Brad ran inside and spent 10 minutes grabbing items for his family before having to evacuate. After three hours he returned home to find it completely destroyed.

The speed and furiousness of the fires this season are unprecedented, and Brad’s story is all too familiar. Brad and his family are one of many in mid-north NSW that Samaritans’ Purse volunteers are currently working with. In this region hundreds of homes have been burnt the ground. Samaritan’s Purse volunteers are helping families clear property, clean soot and ash, helping to find salvageable items in the rubble, and providing support and hope in the aftermath of the bushfires.

During this difficult time we are seeking volunteers who live around the mid-north NSW region (around Taree). If you are able to volunteer, please click here:

If you are unable to volunteer but would like to contribute we are donating Fire Recovery Kits to Brad’s family, and many others in this situation.

Samaritan’s Purse has been on the ground, responding to bushfire affected regions in northern NSW since 17 October.

A couple received a Fire Kit in Stanthorpe to help recover items in the aftermath of bushfires earlier this year.

We have assisted homeowners with debris removal and general property clearing, and have handed out Fire kits. The kit contains the following:
-Concrete Shovel
-Mouth Shovel
-Wrecking Bar
-Steel Claw Hammer
-Combination Pliers
-Leather Gloves
-Rubber Gloves
-Face Mask (x4)
-Round Plastic Basin
-Long Handle Landscape Rake
-Mattock with Cutter End
-Disposable Overalls
-Safety Specs (x2)

These kits help families clear property and find valuable items in the rubble.

You can help provide relief to those who have been impacted by the fires by donating $300 for a Fire Recovery Kit, or donate to Australian Disaster Relief to help us continue providing support to families that have been affected by the fires. Please click below to give today.

We are still on the ground, and we ask that you join us in prayer for our teams as they support families affected by the fires.
