Thank You for Participating in Shoebox Sunday!

Shoebox Sunday Competition Winner Announced!

In association with Christian Media and Arts Australia (CMAA) and partnering with Christian broadcasters around Australia and New Zealand, Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse Australia, recently conducted a competition asking, “Why do you pack a shoebox?”

Entrants were asked to respond in 25 words or less, expressing their reasons and passion for packing and sending gift-filled shoeboxes of love.

“It is wonderful that so many people can come together and give such a tangible expression of God’s love”, said Rowan Armstrong, Operation Christmas Child Australia and New Zealand, National Manager.

After carefully considering the many unique and creative answers to the question of “Why pack a shoebox?”, Operation Christmas Child would like to congratulate Emma from Canberra who heard about the competition through her local radio station in Canberra – 1WAY FM.

Emma is our competition winner!

Emma was amazed to discover she had won the competition, which will see her joining Operation Christmas Child on an outreach distribution trip delivering gift-filled shoeboxes to children in Cambodia in early 2018. Emma, a Youth Group Leader in Canberra, packed 25 shoeboxes with her church youth group.

“WOW! That is all I can say at the moment!! Thank you so much!! I didn’t think things like this happened to ordinary people”, exclaimed Emma.

The judging panel felt that Emma’s winning entry, below, was this year’s best expression of why Operation Christmas Child loves individuals, families and communities to be involved in the process of packing shoeboxes.

Christmas is filled with joy,

because of a baby boy.

I pack a shoebox to give glory above,

but most importantly to share His love.

Thank you to everyone that entered the competition, for sharing their motives and passion for participating in packing shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child in 2017. We are excited to have already sent off several shipping containers filled with thousands of shoeboxes this processing season, and we are looking forward to sending many more shoeboxes this year, from Australia and New Zealand to children who may otherwise have never received a gift.

Thank you also to every church that participate in Shoebox Sunday. We are very thankful for your partnership!
